Well, I broke my EBay cherry and put my Clash Ticket up for auction. Within hours the emails came flurrying in. Not to bid exactly but to put me straight regarding the provenance of the wine-stained ticket.
I’m indebted to Two-Short Plank, Snoh, Koka-Kola and others and thanks to them I was able to revise my information regarding the origins of this item:
The year date wasn’t printed on the ticket by the promoter but it seems it was on Oct 14 Top Hat, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin 1978 that The Clash played while on a tour that opened on the night before Oct 13, for the University SU, Queens Hall Belfast.
I note that the opening act was Berlin fronted by one Brian Devon –a one time flatmate of Bob Geldof. And if I’m not mistaken they spent some time together in Canada. Doubtless I’ll stand corrected on that one as well.
